For so many in Wilmington, it seems like just yesterday. But Saturday is the five year anniversary of the murder of three year old Riley Fox. Police were called at 8 AM the morning of June 6, 2004; after Riley was reported missing that morning by her father Kevin Fox. Riley's body was found around 3 PM that afternoon in nearby Forked Creek in the Forsythe Woods Forest Preserve. She had been sexually assaulted. Kevin Fox was jailed for the killing in October of 2004, but was then released 200 days later when DNA evidence did not link him to the crime. A civil suit filed against Will County deputies later resulted in Kevin Fox and his wife Melissa being awarded a combined 15-point-five million dollars due to alleged false arrest and malicious prosecution. Appeals are still pending. No one else has been arrested for the killing of Riley Rox, and the investigation remains open.
