Lockport, Will County Site Agreement on Bridge, Corridor Plan

After a meeting that took place on Monday, the City of Lockport and Will County are now claiming agreement on plans for the corridor east of a planned bridge over the Des Plaines River and Sanitary Ship Canal that would connect Caton Farm Road to Bruce Road.  A statement released last week by Will County stated that Lockport may be backing away from a previous commitment to build a road known as the "middle alignment," which would connect traffic from the east end of the bridge back up to 159th Street.  Newly elected Lockport mayor Dev Trevedi informed county officials during Monday's meeting that the city never intended to retract from that.  Instead, it was a city consultant working on Lockport's I-355 Corridor who suggested that maybe the "middle alignment" plan should be abandoned if the bridge project ever goes through, and that existing roads should be used instead.  Trevedi told county officials that it was just a suggestion, and the city's plans have not changed.  Both Trevedi and County Executive Chief of Staff Matt Ryan stated Tuesday morning on 1340 WJOL that both entities are in agreement about the "middle alignment."  County officials will be traveling to Springfield on June 24th to discuss both state and federal funding for this possible future corridor-bridge project.
