Illinois Governor Pat Quinn now says he is ready for a long summer in Springfield, and state legislative leaders say they are not impressed with Quinn's last minute handling of Tuesday night's budget showdown. With no solution reached, the new fiscal year has begun with no final budget solution. One of Quinn's leading critics was House GOP Leader Tom Cross, who stated he did not like Quinn implying that the legislators should have passed his income tax increase because that's what responsible adults would do. The State Senate did not agree to a House proposal to borrow money against the state pension system to avoid major social service cuts. Previously on 1340 WJOL, and again Tuesday night, Senate GOP Minority Leader Christine Rodogno stated that the best solution right now might be a month-to-month budget, while a final solution continues to be worked out. However, there is no indication right now of the governor going that route.
