Channahon Shooting Update

Channahon Police Department

PRESS RELEASE-JULY 8, 2009

At approximately 6:30 yesterday morning, our police department was dispatched to the 25000 block of Blackberry Lane for a reported home invasion with at least two people being shot.

Upon our arrival on the scene and assessing the situation, a decision was made to call out the newly created Will/Grundy County Major Crimes Task Force to assist us in the investigation.

This was the Task Force’s first call out, and they responded with 34 investigators and evidence technicians from the following police departments; Shorewood, Bolingbrook, Minooka, Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Will County Sheriff’s Office, Joliet, Mokena, Romeoville, and also had the additional assistance of the Secret Service. We also appreciate the assistance of the Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow’s office, which had both an Investigator and State’s Attorney available throughout.

Due to their quick and efficient response, within 12 hours, we were able to make four arrests and have charged Jason Orasco, 24 year old, M/W, of Channahon,  Matthew Edwards, 17 years of age, M/W, of Joliet, Ashley Hill, 17 years of age, F/W, of Joliet and Mary Vetor, 24 years of age, F/W, also of Joliet; each with 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, 2 Counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and 1 Count of Home Invasion.

Because legal proceedings have begun, I cannot discuss any of the evidence, but feel confident that the case we have against defendants is very strong.

The victims, Lauren Vasilakis, 19 year old, F/W, of Channahon and Josh Terdic, 21 year old M/W, also of Channahon, are both alive. Ms. Vasilakis has been released from the hospital and Mr. Terdic underwent surgery this morning and is recovering. Their families have been advised of the arrests and we wish them a speedy and healthy recovery.
