The unemployment rate in Illinois continues to rise. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January 2010 was 11.3 percent, up from the December 2009 rate of 11.0 percent, according to data released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The unemployment rate is at its highest level since 1983.
The agency says while there are signs that the recession has ended, the jobless rate continues to rise in Illinois and across the country. The department reports that preliminary data for January reflect job growth, but January is traditionally a difficult month in which to capture employment data.
The national unemployment rate in January and February was 9.7 percent. Illinois’ February employment numbers are expected out later this month.
