2019 Annual Senior Resource Festival!
Senior Services of Will County and its partner, HARRAH’s will kick off the 2019 Annual Senior Resource Festival on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 9:00am to 2:00pm at Joliet First Assembly, 1741 Essington Road, Joliet, Illinois.
“Seniors today are not the seniors of yesterday,” says Barry Kolanowski, Executive Director of Senior Services of Will County, “the 60+ crowd are more active than ever before, mentally, physically and socially.” Through this event, seniors connect with resources, information, services and programs to help them be safe, healthy and independent.
Over 600 seniors are expected to attend the 2019 Annual Senior Resource Festival. The resource festival will focus on making sure each senior receives the necessary information and access to resources they need to remain safe, healthy and independent. Seniors will enjoy lunch, exciting door prizes every half hour and entertainment throughout the day. Pre-registration for lunch is required. Several workshops will be available that focus on top senior concerns, such as, how to avoid senior scams, understanding Medical Cannabis, Medicare & Medicaid Alignment Initiative, Mood Swings, Smart Phone Technology and others. New this year, LHC-IL Home Health Care partnered with Senior Services on the “Ask the Doctor” forum. This forum will have a panel of five physicians to answer questions from seniors on medical concerns. The panel of doctors will respond to questions in the areas of Geriatrics, Neurology, Home Health Care, Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Podiatry.
25 % of older adults in Will County are either diabetic or pre-diabetic, and may not even know it. Senior Services of Will County strives to improve the quality of life for this older adult population by offering FREE health screenings at the festival, such as cholesterol, balance, hearing and more to help identify a problem early. The path to achieve longevity is to improve older adult’s quality of life and health screenings are an important part of maintaining good health.
As a courtesy of the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the mobile food pantry truck will be on-site to distribute food for registered festival attendees.
