Charges are pending against two teens arrested following a carjacking and chase that started in Calumet City and ended in Wilmington. Police say Dolton officers began chasing a vehicle yesterday that had been stolen earlier that morning in Calumet City. The chase ended when the offenders drove off of the roadway in a residential neighborhood in Wilmington, with the offenders fleeing on foot according to the Wilmington Police Department.

While officers from several jurisdictions were conducting a manhunt for the two offenders they were alerted to a home invasion in close proximity of the original incident. The home owner fired a shot in the residence when the intruder refused to leave after being discovered in the kitchen area of the single family residence. The offender, later determined to be 17 years of age, then fled but was quickly apprehended hiding in the backyard of the adjacent home and was taken into custody without incident by the Wilmington Police Department and Will County Sheriff’s Deputies.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle went off the road in a residential area of Wilmington and two 17-year-olds ran off. One teen was captured in the backyard of a nearby home and the other was found hiding in a pole barn in unincorporated Wilmington.
