A 50 Year Old Golf Course In Joliet Is Fully Open

After 50 years Wedgewood got its first makeover. The Joliet Park District golf course is fully open now. It’s like a new golf course with 5 new holes revamped or changed all together according to golf pro Jason Shook. The biggest change will be most evident on hole 5 and hole 9. The barn that used to be on hole 5 is is now gone and will be challenging.

The 7th will be a par 4, the 8th a par 3 but the 9th hole will be a dramatic finish. Architect Greg Martin combined the old 8th and 9th hole to make a challenging par 5.  This the first time the course has been updated in nearly 50 years. No changes to the clubhouse until the fall.

What people won’t notice is what’s underneath. The new irrigation system should increase the quality of the turf going forward. Wedgewood opened in 1970 and all 18 holes opened this past weekend.
