All Forest Preserve District of Will County Sites Will be Closed Wednesday, Thursday Due to Severe Cold
Due to predictions of extremely frigid temperatures and dangerous wind chill factors, all Forest Preserve visitor centers, preserves and trails will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31.
The closures have been instituted to keep preserve patrons and employees safe during these unusually dangerous weather conditions.
Forest Preserve District buildings, preserves and trails will reopen at regularly scheduled times on Friday, Feb. 1.
As winter wears on, it’s important for members of the public to remember that snow, ice and unusually low temperatures can all affect preserve openings throughout the season.
Social media is the best way to stay abreast of these weather-related late openings, early closures and closures. Notices for specific preserves will be posted to that preserve’s Facebook page. In addition to the District’s main Facebook page, Facebook.com/WillCoForests, all District preserves have individual Facebook pages. Referring to those individual Facebook preserve pages provides the timeliest information regarding specific closures.
During the week, members of the public also can call the Sugar Creek Administration Center at 815-727-8700 to check on a preserve’s status. The administration center is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, except for this week when all buildings will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, as previously stated.
