Area Braces For Extreme Heat

More than 110 million Americans in 23 states are under heat alerts today. Temperatures hit triple-digits along the Gulf Coast and all the way up to Sioux Falls, South Dakota — where the heat index reached 109 degrees — and Minneapolis, Minnesota — where it felt like 114 degrees. Expecting more heat this week, Chicago Public Schools canceled all outdoor games today and Thursday. Dr. Keisha Campbell, superintendent of C-P-S District 205, says the move is a precaution.

Each school district locally is implementing their own precautions to keep students safe. In Plainfield’s District 202, students will not be outside for recess, physical education, athletics or other activities today and tomorrow. Some athletic teams may practice before school.
