A bill suspending the use of a basic skills test for Illinois teacher licensing is headed to Governor J.B. Pritzker’s desk. The state Senate passed the measure Thursday that would put a hold on the test of basic skills until July 2025. The bill also calls on the Illinois State Board of Education to rework its method of scoring another mandatory test prospective teachers have to pass. The moves come as the state works to relieve a teacher shortage.
