Illinois lawmakers are advancing a bill designed to punish libraries that ban books. The state House approved a measure yesterday that would allow the Illinois secretary of state’s office to deny grant funding to public and school libraries that ban books or fail to devise policies against removing titles from their stacks. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
