Bill To Remove Gendered Language From Marriage Certificates Advances

A bill intended to remove gendered language from marriage certificates is advancing. The Illinois Senate approved the measure yesterday that would change terms like bride and groom to gender-neutral alternatives like spouse. Married couples would be able to request a new certificate from their county clerk’s office. The proposal is headed to the House for consideration.
