A capital infrastructure plan includes a large tax increase to create what its sponsor calls a more stable, permanent funding source to repair the state’s roads and bridges. Senator Martin Sandoval’s proposal would raise the gas tax from 19 cents to 44 cents per gallon. It would also double the driver’s license fee, add 50-dollars to the annual vehicle registration fee, and hike the cost to register an electric vehicle up to a thousand dollars a year.
