On November 7, 2024, at approximately 7:51 am, Crest Hill Police was notified that a Chaney-Monge student made a school shooting threat on Snapchat. Several other students saw the threat and promptly reported it.
The juvenile’s parents were fully cooperative and allowed Crest Hill Officers to search the home. Crest Hill Police Officers verified that there were no weapons in the home or at Chaney-Monge School.
The case will be referred to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office Juvenile Division.
We believe there is no further threat at this time, but given the recent increase in school threats, Crest Hill Police Officers will be providing an increased presence around Crest Hill area schools during arrival and dismissal times.
Crest Hill residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity by calling 911 or the non-emergency line at (815)741-5111. Anonymous calls can also be made by contacting Crime Stoppers of Will County.
The Crest Hill Police Department would like to thank Chaney-Monge School Officials for their assistance in this matter. Additionally, Crest Hill Police thanks the students who “saw something and said something” ensuring that the process for keeping the students safe is effective.
