Chaney-Monge School Threatened
Another area school has been threatened. This time, it’s Chaney-Monge School in Crest Hill.
According to the school’s Facebook page:
Chaney-Monge School investigated a possible threat by a current elementary student late today. The school reported the possible threat to the Crest Hill Police Department (CHPD).
The threat has been deemed not credible by CHPD. The student will face disciplinary action from the school. CHPD will be releasing a public statement on their FB page later today.
The Crest Hill Police Department have also issued a statement:
On 09/25/24 at approximately 3:30pm, Crest Hill Police was notified by Chaney Monge School officials that a 10-year-old student made a verbal threat during class to “shoot up the school”. Several other students heard the threat and reported it to the school staff.
The juvenile’s parents were fully cooperative and allowed Crest Hill Officers to search the home. Crest Hill Police Officers verified that the weapons in the home were stored safely and locked away.
The case will be referred to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office Juvenile Division.
We believe there is no further threat at this time, but given the recent increase in school threats, Crest Hill Police Officers will be providing an increased presence around Crest Hill area schools during arrival and dismissal times.
Crest Hill residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity by calling 911 or the non-emergency line at (815)741-5111. Anonymous calls can also be made by contacting Crime Stoppers of Will County
The Crest Hill Police Department would like to thank Chaney Monge School Officials for their assistance in this matter.
