Chase From Harvey Leads To Full I-55 Closure

A police chase that started in Harvey led to a shutdown of I-55 for a bit of time this afternoon. Police tried to stop a tow truck that was suspected in a recent homicide at the intersection of 147th St and Halsted St, when it fled from officers. The pursuit ended up on I-55, where the truck struck a vehicle that was off to the shoulder in the southbound lanes near Bluff Road.

In that area as well, Channahon Police were able to deploy spike strips, which disabled the vehicle.

The pursuit finally stopped between the Arsenal Road and North River Road exits, where the two occupants initiated a standoff, closing the expressway for some time.

After negotiators were able to talk both individuals out of the tow truck, they were taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
