The Joliet City Council called a special meeting on Monday night.  The meeting in question was called to discuss the hiring of a new interim city manager after the council removed Marty Shanahan from that position and returned him to his position as the city’s corporate counsel. The official agenda for the meeting stated that the council would be discussing a possibility that would involve re-hiring former city manager Jim Hock on an interim basis until a permanent hire can be made.

Jim Hock had previously served as Joliet City Manager from November of 2013 till May of 2017 when he announced his retirement. The council shared a variety of opinions on the hiring process, length of search and even the intricacies of the candidate pool for a permanent city manager but most did agree that Jim Hock should be present at the next council meeting to talk to council. Only Larry Hug stated that he was not interested in having Hock at the next meeting. The next meeting of the Joliet City Council will be at the pre-council meeting on July 1st at 5:30 p.m.
