Coach Larry Thompson to be honored Feb. 21 for 300th Game Win
Joliet Central High School Athletics will honor Central Boys Basketball Coach Larry Thompson for winning his 300th game as a head boys varsity basketball coach onFebruary 21, 2019, at 5 p.m. prior to the Central v. West Varsity Boys Basketball Game at Joliet Central High School. Tickets for this game are pre-sale only. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are available online via GoFan.co.
Coach Thompson is a proud Kingsman, graduating from Joliet East High School in 1977. After graduating from Joliet East, Thompson received his bachelor’s degree from Lewis University in January 1982 and his master’s degree from Chicago State University in 1992.
Although he is better known for his basketball coaching, Thompson spent the beginning of his coaching career as the Cross-Country Head Coach at Lockport High School for a total of 13 seasons, with notable successes including finishing third in State in 1995, first in State in 1996 and 1997, and fourth in State in 1998. He made his transition into coaching basketball while in Lockport and served as theHead Boys Basketball Coach at Lockport High School for 16 seasons, spanning from November 1999 to March 2015.
Joliet Central High School welcomed Coach Thompson back to Joliet in November 2016, where he has brought his passion and expertise as the Head Boys Basketball Coach for three seasons.
Overall in his basketball coaching history, his inspirational energy and expertise has elevated his teams to win eight regional championships, three sectional championships, and two State appearances. Joliet Township High School is excited to be celebrate the 300th game of this inspiring alumnus and coach.
