Crest Hill Man Arrested In Shooting In Parking Lot Of Cuddy Store Which Injured Two Teens

Joliet Police make an arrest following shooting in Cuddy Store parking lot a couple of weeks ago. Marcus Gilbert (19, Crest Hill) was arrested, processed,  and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for Two Counts of Attempt First  Degree Murder (Class X), Two Counts of Aggravated Battery (Class X), and Two Counts of  Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1).  

During the investigation of a shooting that occurred outside of the Western Food Mart (308  Western Avenue) on August 28, 2024, at 9:11 p.m., Joliet Police Detectives identified Gilbert as  a suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Gilbert for the above listed criminal charges on September 3, 2024.  

Gilbert was taken into custody by members of the US Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force  during the morning hours of September 10, 2024, in the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive in  Bolingbrook. Gilbert was transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing and then transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. At the time of today’s arrest, Gilbert  was on pretrial release for a gun charge in April of 2024. (Joliet, Illinois – August 29, 2024) – On August 28, 2024, at 9:11 p.m., Officers responded to  the 300 block of Western Avenue for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, Officers learned that a  shooting had just taken place near the parking lot of the Western Food Mart (Cuddy Store – 308  Western Avenue). Officers located two shooting victims nearby in the 300 block of Bluff Street.  It was discovered that a 17-year-old male had sustained a single gunshot wound to the right calf  and a 15-year-old male had sustained a single gunshot wound to the buttocks. Officers rendered  medical assistance to both victims prior to the arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics. It is  believed that both victims were shot while entering the parking lot of the Western Food Mart on  foot and on a bicycle. Both gunshot victims were transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical  Center by the Joliet Fire Department in stable condition. Both injuries were determined to be  non-life threatening. Multiple spent shell casings were located at the scene as a result of a  canvass of the scene and surrounding area.
