The patriarch of the family that owns the Cubs is apologizing after emails surfaced appearing to show him share and endorse racist jokes and conspiracy theories. Joe Ricketts issued a statement yesterday saying he deeply regrets some of the exchanges in the emails, which were obtained and published by Splinter News. Islamophobia was prevalent in the messages, while others discussed the birther conspiracy aimed at former President Barack Obama. Joe Ricketts’ son and Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts condemned the views and language and emphasized his father isn’t involved in the operations of the team.
