DCFS Investigator Under Review In Freund Case Faced Prior Discipline

The last DCFS investigator who handled the case of Andrew AJ Freund before the young Crystal Lake boy was allegedly killed by his parents has a troubled past. The Chicago Tribune reports Carlos Acosta was recently disciplined for ignoring a court order to connect a family with support services, delaying help for four children in a home with a record of domestic violence and alcohol abuse. In another situation, prosecutors say he failed to alert them about a mother’s heroin use and that he refused to hold a child because he was worried about bedbugs. Acosta, who currently serves on the McHenry County Board, was placed on desk duty April 19 after allegations surfaced about DCFS mishandling the Freund case.
