The Great Read for 2019 is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. The enduring 1900 classic novel, tells the story of the magical journey of Dorothy Gale, her dog, Toto, and the faithful friends she meets along the way to the Emerald City. First published in Chicago, the book captured the hearts of readers and spawned countless book, movies and musical adaptions, and its timeless themes of adventure, friendship and good versus evil continue to live on today.

The program kickoff will be held at the Joliet Public Library Ottawa Street Branch on Thursday, January 31st at 6:30 p.m. Bring you heart, brains and courage and compete in the Oz trivia during this “Toto”lly great night. Teams can be as large as 5 people, with singles welcome who can be matched into teams. Plus creative types can enter an art contest. Create an original piece of art inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Submit your artwork to your home participating library or school by February 15th. Libraries include, Plainfield, Foutaindale, Joliet and White Oak public libraries plus Plainfield School District 202 and Joliet Jr. College.

The program finale will be held at the Plainfield Public Library on S. Illinois Street on Thursday, February 28th at 6:30 p.m. There will be prizes, giveaways and refreshments. Celebrate the culmination of The Great Read by watching The Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character for a chance to win prizes.
