The General Assembly is repealing Illinois’ final anti-abortion law. The Illinois House voted 62 to 51 last night to repeal a 1995 law requiring doctors to inform parents when girls 17 and under seek an abortion. Illinois Democrats have led an effort to respond to recent abortion restrictions put in place in Texas. A recent Texas law bans abortions after a heartbeat is detected. If Governor JB Pritzker signs the repeal, it would take effect in January 2024.
