Governor Vetoes New Nuclear Reactor Bill

No new nuclear reactors are going to be built in Illinois. Not after Governor J.B. Pritzker vetoed a bill that would have lifted a 1980 moratorium on the construction of new reactors. That might not be the end of the measure, though. The law passed in May with three-fifths majority in both chambers, meaning an override of Governor Pritzker’s veto is still possible.
