The grandfather of the slain 2-year-old Joliet boy made an appearance on Slocum in the Morning on WJOL Friday. Allen Urbina is asking the public and media to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.

Urbina said the incident has traumatized the entire family especially the 2-year-old’s mother as people spread false information online, adding to the family’s devastation.

Police report below:

It was on September 6, 2024, at 5:04 p.m., Joliet Police Officers responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Fairway Drive for a report of a 2-year-old male that had been  stabbed. Upon arrival, Officers located the 2-year-old male inside of the residence who had sustained multiple stab wounds. Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the child until the  arrival of Joliet Fire Department Paramedics. The 2-year-old victim was transported to  Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department where he was pronounced  deceased.

Following a preliminary investigation, information was developed that indicated that the 2-year old child had been stabbed with a kitchen knife by his 6-year-old brother while in the family  room of the residence. The victim was discovered by his mother, who then called 911.

Officers on scene took the 6-year-old male into protective custody and he was transported to the  Joliet Police Department, where he was accompanied by family. Detectives continue to work  with the victim’s family, who have fully cooperated with this investigation. The Department of  Children and Family Services was notified and responded. Custody of the 6-year-old child was transferred to DCFS, who then coordinated with the Will County Health Department Screening  Assessment Support Services (SASS) to have the child transported by ambulance to a local  hospital for a mental health evaluation. This case remains in the early stages of an active  investigation and further details will be provided once they become available.

Urbina believes his 6-year-old grandson was heavily medicated but believes more testing could have been done to better identify his issues.

The boys had what Allen referred to as a normal relationship between brothers as they like to roughhouse.

Allen explained the tragedy already endured by his daughter and the 2-year-old as she lost his twin before birth. Allen also told WJOL that the two have been laid to rest together, reuniting them.

Allen also was upset with some media outlets identifying the deceased two year who Allen referred to on Slocum in the Morning as Christopher.

He mentioned the 6-year-old is in a treatment center undergoing further tests and his mother has not yet moved back into her home due to online negativity and people appearing at her home in a menacing manner. She’s at an undisclosed location.
