Update: Vest Saves Grundy County Deputy Who Was Shot & Suspect in Custody

A Grundy County Sheriff’s deputy was shot on Thursday evening. It was just after 5:00 p.m. at Route 47 and Route 113 that the deputy was shot.

The deputy tried to pull over 18-year-old DeMarcus Dinwiddie yesterday. The teen took off and was involved in two separate crashes before coming to a stop near Mazon, Illinois. Dinwiddie fired shots at the deputy while running away. The deputy was shot three times, including twice in his bulletproof vest. Dinwiddie was later taken into custody during a SWAT situation at an apartment in Mazon.

The offender, who is an 18-year-old male, is now in custody, charges are pending.
