Hooded/Masked Person Spotted On RING Footage Opening Unlocked Cars In New Lenox, Valuables Stolen

New Lenox police searching for at least one person who has been burglarizing unlocked vehicles. Within a span of four hours on September 8th, three reports of a burglary to a vehicle. The first happened at 5:43 a.m. in the 400 block of Essex Lane. The victim advised that three of their cars were parked, unlocked, overnight. The victim reported that someone entered the vehicles and rummaged through them. A wallet was stolen from one of the vehicles. The victim related that another one of their vehicles was locked and had not been tampered with.

At 6:53 a.m. in the 300 block of Essex Lane a victim advised police that their car was parked, unlocked, overnight. The victim reported that someone entered the vehicle and stole a wallet and a coin purse.

Police were then called to the 300 block of Rossford Lane just before 9 a.m. The victim advised that their car was parked, unlocked, overnight on their driveway. The victim reported that someone entered their unlocked vehicle and rummaged through their belongings. Nothing appeared to have been stolen at the time of the report.

New Lenox Police tell WJOL they believe it is the same individual. Police recovered a RING camera footage of the hooded/masked person pulling on car door handles. There was not forced entry to any vehicles, all the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked. One of the victims that had their wallet stolen was notified that their credit cards were being used at various stores. The investigation is on-going.

Later on Sept 8th, at 7:56 p.m. in the 400 block of Kingston Drive an unlocked vehicle was opened and a wallet stolen, marking the fourth such theft in a day.
