House Speaker Keeping Close Eye On Replacing Arroyo

The Illinois House Speaker says he’s keeping a close eye on the process to replace Representative Luis Arroyo. Arroyo resigned after being charged with bribery late October, but then asked the Cook County Democratic Party to oversee the vote to replace him. State House Speaker Michael Madigan said yesterday that if Arroyo has any part in choosing the next Representative for 3rd District, it would face scrutiny and a challenge from the full House. Madigan says it would threaten the legitimacy of the appointment.
