I-55 over Des Plaines River in Channahon bridge repairs Weekend

Two extended weekend lane closures are scheduled to take place. Starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, weather permitting, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, motorists can expect lane closures in both directions of I-55 approaching the Des Plaines River bridge. At least one lane in each direction will remain open.

Major travel delays are anticipated, alternative routes are encouraged.

The $4 million project, which consists of replacing expansion joints and installing a new deck overlay, is anticipated to be completed in December.

Digital message boards are installed in advance of the work zone to display real time traffic information. To bypass excessive backups and congestion Illinois 47 and Interstate 80 are recommended alternative routes.

To complete the work, one additional extended weekend lane closure will be required, as weather permits and announced in advance.
