The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that pavement repairs on Interstate 55 between Gardner and Braidwood will begin, Monday, April 6.

The work involves patching, resurfacing of shoulders and the resurfacing of the ramps at the Gardner interchange (exit 227). Lane closures will be required between Gardner and the Reed Road interchange (exit 233).

The repairs are part of a larger resurfacing and bridge repair project on I-55 expected to be complete by early fall 2021.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
