Illinois Anti-Smoking Advocates: 2019 Is The Year For Tobacco 21

The latest version of the plan to raise the age to buy cigarettes or other tobacco products is already moving at the Illinois Capitol. A Senate panel yesterday approved the Tobacco 21 proposal. Lawmakers passed the law last year, but Governor Rauner vetoed it. Anti-smoking advocates say this is the year they make it a law. But critics say raising the age to buy tobacco to 21 treats 18-year-olds like children.
