Illinois Bill Would Bar Colleges From Asking About Criminal History

An Illinois House bill would bar colleges from asking students about their criminal history on applications. Police chiefs at several schools in the state say the proposal would hurt campus safety efforts. Supporters say there is no evidence that asking the question protects public safety. A similar House bill failed to gain final approval in 2017.
