Illinois Governor Pushes Consolidation For Downstate Police, Fire Pensions

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is pushing toward a major change for cops and firefighters in downstate Illinois. The governor yesterday said he supports a task force’s recommendation that Illinois combine police and fire pensions in the suburbs and downstate, into two systems. One would be for police officers, the other for firefighters. The governor says combining the retirement savings for first responders will help the pension plans earn more money, and could save some from bankruptcy.
