Illinois House Advances COVID Relief Funding Bill

The Illinois House is advancing a plan that would use roughly a third of the eight-billion-dollars in federal COVID relief funding to pay off a portion of the state’s unemployment insurance funds.  The House yesterday approved a measure that would direct two-point-seven-billion-dollars from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan toward repaying four-point-five-billion-dollars worth of debt built up after unemployment surged early in the pandemic.  The proposal now heads to the Senate.
