Illinois House Majority Leader Harris Not Seeking Re-Election

Illinois House Majority Leader Greg Harris won’t seek re-election next year following eight terms in office.  The Democrat was first elected to the House in 2006, representing a district on Chicago’s North Side.  The 66-year-old is the first openly LGBTQ legislative leader in Illinois history.  He is also HIV positive.  Harris spent much of his time in office advancing gay rights, health care reform and social service funding.
