Illinois House Okays LGBT Textbook Requirement
March 14, 2019 1:57PM CDT
The next set of textbooks that Illinois schools buy may be required to have some chapters on the contributions of gays and lesbians. The Illinois House yesterday approved a plan to require that all new books paid for with Illinois’ textbook block grant money be inclusive. Supporters of the plan say it’s important for LGBT students to see they are not alone. The requirement does not cover textbooks paid for with local dollars. The proposal now heads for the Illinois Senate.
