The Illinois House has voted to put a graduated income tax amendment on the ballot in November of 2020. In a 73-44 vote split along party lines, the House voted to approve the measure yesterday. Lawmakers debated the measure for three-and-a-half hours before it came to a vote. Republicans worry that it will chase the wealthy individuals out of the state and kill jobs. But, Democrats say it will level the playing field in terms of state income taxes. Governor Pritzker, a supporter, said it would cut taxes for 97-percent of taxpayers in the state.
