Several Illinois drivers are expected to cross state lines and get fuel from Indiana gas stations after the 38-cent-per gallon gas tax went into effect yesterday. The gas tax in the Hoosier state is nine cents lower. The Illinois gas increase is part of the 45-billion-dollar capital plan signed into law last week by Governor Pritzker. The Rebuilding Illinois legislation will use funds from the new taxes and fee hikes for transportation and education projects.
