The state of Illinois is offering to help furloughed federal workers make it to payday. Governor Pritzker and Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs yesterday announced that the state is working with more than two dozen banks and credit unions to provide federal workers with no interest loans to get them through the partial federal government shutdown. Frerichs says his office is also working with banks to get people deferrals on their mortgages and car payments. The money for the loans is tied to the state’s deposits at the banks across the state.
