The Illinois Department of Transportation and law enforcement across the state are promoting Distracted Driving Awareness Month in effort to save lives and make Illinois roads safer. Distracted driving led to more than nine-thousand crashes on Illinois roads in 2020. In the state, it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle while using an electronic communication device to text or make a call unless using hands-free mode.
