Illinois Senate Republicans are working to limit the emergency powers of the governor. A new bill would limit the amount of time governors can declare a disaster to 30 days. Following that period, the General Assembly would have to pass a resolution allowing the extension of a disaster proclamation. Illinois has been in a state of disaster since March 2020. Governor Pritzker has extended the proclamation every month since.
