The latest plan to set a minimum wage for new teachers in Illinois includes a ramp. An Illinois Senate panel yesterday approved a proposal that would eventually pay new teachers in Illinois 40 thousand-dollars-a-year. The plan would set the starting wage for teachers at just over 32 thousand-dollars next year, then ramp it up to 40 thousand over the next three years. Some local schools say they’ll have trouble affording that kind of state-mandated pay hike.
