Illinois State Police Arrests Waukegan Man For Road Rage Related Incident On I-55

Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 West arrested 25-year-old Nicholas Ortiz of Chicago, IL for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony) stemming from a road rage related expressway shooting.

On August 31, 2024, at approximately 7:23 p.m., ISP was notified of an expressway shooting that occurred on Interstate 55 northbound near Route 83, Kingery Highway, in Willowbrook.  The driver of the suspect vehicle, Ortiz, fired a weapon striking the victim vehicle.  The victim was uninjured. Otriz and the victim both exited the interstate and notified the police.  The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the above charge against Ortiz.  Ortiz is being held pending a detention hearing.
