Joliet Central Student’s NASCAR Ticket Design selected by Chicagoland Speedway Staff
Joliet Central High School student Esperanza Cuellar’s NASCAR Ticket design was chosen by the staff at Chicagoland Speedway as the most outstanding ticket out of 60 designs submitted by students at Joliet Central High School. The ticket was a design for the Camping World 400 event of the MONSTER ENERGY NASCAR CUP SERIES. Cuellar is a student in the Business Management and Information Systems Academy at Joliet Central High School.
Since 2007, Chicagoland Speedway has collaborated with Joliet Township High School to encourage real-life assignments that would bring more relevance to learning. One of the first teachers to jump on board was Mr. Lee Swank, a Joliet Central graphics design instructor.
Swank said, “I have been doing ticket design ever since. I try and have students work on things that are real life. This ticket design was a very meticulous assignment. The specifications had to be exact. The students are fortunate that they are able to use industry leading software like Photoshop.”
Swank added, “Esperanza has always done outstanding work. I am not surprised at all that she won, because she holds herself to high standards and works very hard.”
