The Joliet City Council will decide the fate of the city’s Interim City Manager at this Tuesday’s Council Meeting. The agenda for the regularly scheduled council meeting has listed an item that states “vote to relieve Martin J. Shanahan Jr. of his duties as interim City Manager.” It was in October of 2018 that the city of Joliet parted ways with then city manager David Hales and appointed Shanahan, who had been the city attorney, to the position on an interim basis. Chris Regis, the city inspector general, is currently acting as the city’s Interim Corporate Counsel. The timing of this scheduled vote comes as members of the city council would like to see the position opened up to outside applicants while the mayor and other members of the council have discussed promoting Shanahan to the job full time. The regularly scheduled city council meeting will take place on June 18th at 6:30 p.m.
