Joliet District 86 Schools To Return To In-Person Learning Tuesday

Following the threats that were made on Joliet District 86 Schools Sunday night, and the e-learning that took place on Monday, the school district has announced that they will return to in-person classes tomorrow. The following is a statement from the school district.

Dear District 86 Families:

The Joliet Police Department identified the source of the social media threats that were circulating last evening and  have determined that they are not credible. We thank the Joliet Police Department for their thorough investigation. In person classes will resume tomorrow (September 17, 2024).

While this situation presented no danger to anyone, it is another opportunity for me to remind you of your important  role in assisting us in providing a safe school environment for our students and staff. Safety remains our top priority  and we take all threats seriously.

Please talk to your children about social media safety/privacy and to monitor your children’s electronic devices. It  is important to know what your children are posting and viewing on social media sites. If you or your child observes  or hears something that might have an impact on the safety of our school community, please let law enforcement  and us know.

In addition, check your children’s belongings before they leave for school and know what they have in their backpacks  at all times. We will continue to enforce our current safety procedures at our schools and remind students that if they  see a classmate bring something to school that is not allowed, a staff member needs to be told immediately.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Joliet Police Department reminds that any suspicious activity should be reported by either dialing 9-1-1 or calling the non-emergency line at 815-726-2491
