Joliet School District 86 teachers will vote Wednesday on whether or not to authorize a strike against the district. Teachers in District 86 have been working without a contract since August 31st. Over 750 staff members are currently apart of the Local 604 branch of the Illinois Federation of Teachers. The possible strike authorization comes after the district and the union have failed to reach agreements on several key issues including wages as well as sick and personal leave time issues. There are currently 11,000 students across 21 schools within Joliet District 86.
