Joliet Fire Fighters Rescue Family Pets from Burning Home As Resident Suffers Smoke Inhalation

At 5:30 p.m. on Sept 11, Joliet Fire Department responded to 1520 Prairie for a structure fire. On arrival, fire crews were met with heavy smoke from two side of the structure. Fire crews found the homeowner outside with a complaint of smoke inhalation and superficial burns. Ambulance crew assigned to homeowner. Crews made entry to find heavy fire in the front bedroom of a single-story home.

While searching the first-floor fire crews where able to rescue two family dogs, one suffered from smoke inhalation and was provided first aid and transported to veterinarian for further treatment. The resident was transported to the hospital for further assessment. Fire crews where on the scene for one hour.
