Joliet Police: Stolen Truck/Crash Leads to Arrests

On December 31, 2022, at 2:57 PM, Joliet Police Officers located a Dodge Ram pickup truck that had been previously reported stolen from Bolingbrook, northbound on Essington Road from West Jefferson Street. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle near Essington Road and Fiday Road. The truck stopped briefly but then fled from the traffic stop westbound on Fiday Road at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to the reckless manner in which the driver was operating the truck.

A short time later, Officers were notified of a single-vehicle crash at Northeast Frontage Road and Fiday Road. Upon arrival, Officers located the same Dodge Ram truck that had struck the barrier wall to Interstate 55, and it was determined that multiple occupants ran from the vehicle. Numerous Officers converged on the area to conduct a search for the suspects. A drone and K9 were deployed to assist in the search. Barber, Requena, and Bates were located a short time later in a neighborhood located northeast of the crash and all were placed into custody without incident. Barber was in possession of Alprazolam pills at the time of the arrest. Officers determined they were the occupants of the truck and that Barber had been the driver. All three were transported to Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department for treatment of minor injuries suffered during the crash. All three arrestees were released from the hospital a short time later and transported to the Joliet Police Department for processing. Following a search of the truck, Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun that had been previously reported stolen. Possession of this handgun remains under investigation.

The Joliet Police Department would like to thank the Will County Sheriff’s Department and the Shorewood Police Department for their assistance in this case.
